BR - Blackwood River Fringing and Lower Bank

These plants grow along the edge of the Blackwood River. In winter they may become inundated.

These plants help by:

Holding the banks together

Filtering nutrients and trapping soil

Slowing down the water flow at the river’s edge which reduces undercutting and erosion of the bank

Providing habitat for lots of insects, which in turn are a food resource for frogs, fish and water birds
